About the Author

Nükhet Vardar, after graduating from İzmir American Collegiate Institute in 1979, received her BSc.degree at Dokuz Eylül University (İzmir, Turkey), Business Faculty in 1983. She studied for her MA degree at UMIST (University of Manchester, Institute of Science and Technology, UK) in International Marketing between 1983-84; followed by Ph.D., again at UMIST, in International Advertising between 1987-89. She worked as a Product Manager at Turyağ (1985-87), as Media and Research Manager at Yaratım/FCB (1990-93) and as Planning Director at Y&R/Reklamevi (1993-95). She was the founding Managing Director of Initiative Media, İstanbul between December 1995-June 2001. While continuing her business life, she obtained the Associate Professor degree in Advertising and Promotion in 1994. She was a full-time lecturer at Yeditepe University, Faculty of Economics and Business Administration from December 2001 to September 2006 and was assigned professorship in ‘Marketing and Production’ area, in 2004. She is the author of more than 80 articles and presentations in advertising and marketing, both in Turkish and English. Her book titled Global Advertising : Rhyme or Reason?, written based on her Ph.D. thesis, was published in the U.K. in 1992. This book was later translated into Korean, in 1998.


Her books published by the Turkish Advertising Foundation in marketing and branding include: Biraz Cesaret! Krizde Başarılı 10 Markanın Öyküsü (=A Little Courage: 10 Successful Brands During Economic Crisis) (2003), Türk Markaları-1 (=Turkish Brands-1) (January 2007), Türk Markaları-2 (=Turkish Brands-2) (December 2008). She is also the author of Marka Fotoğrafları (=Brand Photographs) (November 2007) published by İş Bankası. Furthermore, she has edited ESOMAR’s Market Research Glossary into Turkish, together with A. Alyanak and P. Çırpılı, in 1994. Her other publications in English include contributions to academic books, such as International Marketing Reader (1995) published by Routledge and International Business: Strategy, Management and the New Realities (2008) by Prentice Hall. Apart from her area of expertise, she has also written her father’s biography, Prof. Dr. Yusuf Vardar who is a botanist. His biography, called Hakikâtte Aşk… Bilgide Kuvvet was published on May 2007. Currently she is giving personal consultancy at El İzi Communications Consultancy in marketing and communications, as well as lecturing Ph.D. students at Yeditepe University, Graduate School of Social Sciences.
